As someone who helps other business owners with branding – I’m constantly on the lookout for the best brands and companies (as well as the worst) to learn more strategies, connect with other successful entrepreneurs, and align myself with the best.
This #BrandsILove series highlights some of my absolute FAVORITE brands.
I categorize my favorites by a few different qualities. Some of them might make sense to you, others are purely personal. My hope is that you’ll start to look around you in a different way: getting inspiration wherever you go, using your dollars to vote for the best (aka purchasing with purpose and passion), and hopefully discover some new brands yourself!
Today’s #BrandsILove: PURPLE!
Adrian and I discovered Purple in much the same way brands have been discovered for years and years: Advertising!
We had been searching for a mattress because we were still on my lumpy double bed from high school – not cool. So of course the powers of the internet alerted all sorts of companies what we were up to (yes, you can do this for your business, too!).
We started seeing these funny little commercials pop up all over the place and we gave it a watch, fell in love, and have been in Purple Heaven ever since. I’ll explain more, with the intention that not only do you check out Purple for their goods, but you also get some inspiration for your marketing strategies!
Stand Apart Brand Qualities:
#1 – Hilarious Commercials
I’m a sucker for a good laugh. Aren’t we all? They got us good with a commercial that clearly explained what set them apart… using Goldilocks and a few raw eggs.

#2 – Great Price, Science, and Refund Policy
They highlight scientific backgrounds, not something most mattress companies bother to do. They cost a fraction of most mattress… and let’s face it, people DO price shop. And their 100 Sleep Guarantee makes it easy to say “Hell yes! I will try this out!”
#3 – Directly From The Manufacturers
Skipping the “middle man” is becoming more and more attractive, especially when it’s clearly reflected in the price of a product. They ran a Kickstarter to begin their project in 2015 and they’re kicking butt.
#4 – Brand Loyalty Through Complimentary Products
It’s like they’re reading their customers minds. Because, well, they are! When people find a great mattress, they also need a few additional accessories:
- Bed frame/foundation
- Mattress cover
- Pillow
- etc.
Right as Adrian and I were searching high and low for a sturdy platform bed frame (there are so many shitty beds out there!!!! WTH? With sleep being as important as it is?!)…
We got an email that Purple had created their own Foundation Base… for less than $200. Umm… sold. Purchased. Set up. Enjoyed already. We are 2 happy campers (well, not campers because we’re not camping we’re sleeping at home in our bed that is no longer on the floor!!).
They’ve got a loyal customer for life because they anticipate my needs and deliver.
#5 – AMAZING REVIEWS
Their business is barely hatched as far as business lifespans go and already they have thousands of amazing reviews. You need to make sure you’re gathering testimonials, client stories, and reviews for your business… people DO read them.
